Q. What is the purpose of Simply Phonics,
Simply Reading?
A. The purpose of this program is to make learning to read (and
teaching reading) with
phonics a
simple, joyful, and effective process. Sylvia L. Brown, a public school educator for over 30
years created this program. Her mission is to ensure that each child in this country
becomes a
successful reader, increasing their reading
skills, phonemic awareness and reading comprehension before or by the middle of third
grade with this complete literacy program.
Q. What are the benefits of using Simply
Phonics Simply Reading?
A. In today's competitive environment, reading is the
foundation for student achievement. Children need the advantage
of enhanced reading skills for a successful education. Simply
Phonics, Simply Reading has been proven to be an effective reading strategy in teaching even difficult students to read
successfully and increase reading comprehension and learning phonics.
Mrs. Brown has
used this method with teaching comprehension to students with reading deficiencies
(learning disability) since
1985 through teaching phonics. The phonics program is highly acclaimed through testimonials by
the parents, educators and students who have observed and/or
experienced the proven success of this program. Parents,
administrators, teachers, tutors, home school educators, and volunteers
can be trained to apply this program in conjunction with their present
reading materials or reading strategy. home school teaching and
home school reading strategies can include this home school phonics
program.
Q. What skills will the student master using
Simply Phonics, Simply Reading?
A. This phonics reading program provides all the elements of a sound
reading/language curriculum through teaching phonics lessons. The literacy program includes a systematic reading agenda of learning the alphabet and phonetic sounds. The
students will gain mastery in reading, fluency drills, comprehension, speaking, and
writing by following the reading lessons. Daily assessment is provided at the end of each lesson
with a written spelling test. Each lesson is sequentially based upon
the successful completion of the previous lesson. This reading
process can be used to teach students preschool -12 and adults.
Q. How does this method differ from other
methods on the market?
A. It is simple, effective and complete within itself. No other
resources or materials are needed except a mentor who knows how to
read and a pencil. The directions are simple and easy to
follow. After the student begins to read, any basal program,
literature, trade books, or reading materials can be integrated with
Simply Phonics, Simply Reading to complete the whole language
process. Mrs. Brown, a reading consultant, provides training for
parents, teachers, and community agencies. Teachers, tutors and
parents can use the process after minimal training. The program is
remarkably cost effective and affordable.
